Project: The Chosen Children Foundation

The Chosen Children Foundation. At the Chosen Children Village (located in Silang, Cavite, Philippines) is a home atmosphere, the children are housed in cottages and are grouped according to their age and functional ability. Inside the cottages, bedrooms have a very personal touch and the caregivers are also encouraged to consider their cottage as home, thus completing the true family atmosphere.

The children, being part of a family, are never made to feel that their time here is temporary. The roots they develop here are well grounded. With deep roots, their wings can grow strong and allow them to become everything they want to be. The Chosen Children school provides a classroom environment in which the children learn tasks such as tying shoelaces and pressing buttons. Physical therapy is another integral part of the children's education and journey towards independence. The physical therapy center will be the largest in the country with a hydrotherapy center and special equipment to suit all the needs of the children. For children with lower functional ability, freedom of in involvement is perhaps their wings to independence.

CHOSEN CHILDREN VILLAGE FOUNDATION is maintained solely through donations, sponsorships and grants and has a Board of Trustees whose members serve without compensation.

ARANTZA REHABILITATION CENTER

The ARANTZA Rehabilitation Center (also located in Silang, Cavite) is the most modern facilities at Chosen Children Village. The building is divided into three main departments: hydrotherapy, physical and occupational therapy. The other facilities include the gymnasium, a conference room, motor/sensory laboratory, speech laboratory, audio laboratory and dormitory for the PT/OT interns and teachers.
The ARANTZA Rehabilitation Center is within the 2.4 hectare lot located adjacent to the residential cottages of the children. The total floor area is 1,481 square meters on both floors. An additional 300 square meters at the basement serves as the main laundry of the village. The construction of this rehabilitation center was made possible by an anonymous donor and through the fund raising projects initiated by the Trustees of the Chosen Children Village Foundation, Inc. The facility houses the various treatment and sheltered workshop services to be undertaken by the Team of Therapists - physical therapists, speech therapist and occupational therapists.

The ARANTZA Rehabilitation Center is serving the less fortunate children who are deprived of their right to special rehabilitation treatment that each physically and mentally challenged child deserves. It is expected that with the completion of its rehabilitation equipments more than 100 children will be served by the center. Likewise, the center is now accepting physically and mentally challenged children from the communities of Silang, Cavite and/or Region IV who greatly need therapeutic services.

The therapeutic services are specifically designed to meet the individual needs of all children who may be at risk with various physical and developmental disabilities.

The School for Chosen Children is under the umbrella of Chosen Children Village Foundation which trains, educates and provides opportunities to our children as well as to the physically and mentally challenged children from the nearby communities of Silang, Cavite. The school has a SPED Early Intervention Program which was conceptualized by a SPED teacher from the United States.
For the school year 2000-01, the school registered 5 extern students and 44 schoolchildren from the village. These children are categorized according to their functional level with five sections such as the Star Section Class, High Function Class, Cerebral Palsy Class, Toddlers Class and the Hyperactive Class. Besides the academic exercises, various extracurricular activities are integrated into their educational curriculum such as exposing them to the "Chapel activity" to enhance their spiritual aspect, teaching them arts and crafts, and giving them physical education. Other activities include gardening and cooking.
